New two-storey complex at Sai temple to have seating arrangements for 10k devotees

The Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) in Shirdi has constructed a new two-storey air-conditioned darshan complex, which aims to enhance the experience of Sai devotees. The complex boasts over 10,000 seats, 16,000 lockers for belongings, 11 lifts, ramps for disabled individuals, and more than 150 closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs). The project, which cost over Rs 109 crore, is nearing completion and is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, although the final dates are yet to be confirmed.

Rahul Jadhav, the acting CEO of SSST, stated, “The project will ensure a seamless darshan experience for the lakhs of Sai devotees who visit the temple throughout the year. They will be able to remain seated in the darshan hall while waiting for their turn to have darshan of Saibaba.”

The new hall has been constructed on the premises of the old Prasadalaya, spanning an area of over 26,100 lakh square feet. It is connected to the main temple complex, allowing devotees to walk from the new hall to the main area where the Sai idol is placed. Additionally, arrangements have been made to provide medical assistance to devotees who may feel unwell.

Dinkar Desai, the deputy chief engineer of SSST and the person overseeing the project, explained, “The new darshan complex comprises a dozen halls. Four of these halls are reserved for devotees who opt for paid darshan, while the rest are available for those who prefer free darshan.”

At present, the existing hall in the main temple complex can accommodate around 4,000-5,000 devotees at a time. However, due to a limited number of seats, a significant number of devotees are forced to stand in queues for darshan.

Desai further elaborated that the lockers provided in the new complex will enable devotees to safely store their mobile phones, bags, and shoes/slippers. Bag scanning machines will also be installed to enhance security measures.

The new complex will include 48 counters to issue biometric passes to devotees. Additionally, there will be 10 counters each dedicated to distributing ladoos (sweets) and udi (sacred ash). A coffee/tea center and a book stall will also be available for devotees’ convenience.

In conclusion, the new air-conditioned darshan complex at Shirdi’s Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) offers a multitude of amenities, aiming to provide a seamless and comfortable darshan experience for the Sai devotees.
